Main Podium Lecture Abstract

The oral and maxillofacial region has a complicated anatomy with critical anatomical landmarks, esthetic zone, restricted access, and continuous functional unit. Therefore, advances in basic scientific research within the field of intraoperative oral and maxillofacial surgery have enabled the introduction of the features of these techniques into routine clinical practice to ensure safe and reliable surgery. A navigation system
provides a useful guide for safer and more accurate surgical outcomes.
The effectiveness of a navigation system for oral and maxillofacial surgery has been indicated by clinical applications in zygomatic, pterygoid, and conventional implant placement specifically in atrophic jaws. This lecture would provide insight into the basics of dynamic navigation and its indications.

Breakout Sessions Abstract

Zygoma implants are different from conventional dental implants in that they anchor into the zygomatic bone rather than the maxilla. They may be used when maxillary bone quality or quantity is inadequate for the placement of regular dental implants. Pterygoid implants are also known as “pterygo-maxillary implants” and “tuberosity implants.” Pterygoid implants allow patients with severe upper jawbone loss to enjoy the benefits of a dental implant. Zygomatic and Pterygoid implants can provide a solution to the increase in demand for immediate restoration post-implant placement, restoration of the resected maxilla, and atrophic maxilla. Thus it has become imperative that every surgeon is well versed in the placement of zygomatic and pterygoid implants. This session will provide insight into the planning and execution of zygomatic and pterygoid implants along with a demonstration and hands-on.
